BSR McDonald AM/FM, 8-track stereo w/speakers & phono input - tested/working.

Description

BSR McDonald Model 28A bookshelf AM/FM Stereo w/built-in 8-track player and SS-3 Speaker pair.  Tested/Working.
In very good vintage condition,  Played a number of 8-tracks with no issues.  Phono input working.  AM/FM tuner working.
Unit is approx. 17.75" x 11" x 4.5".  Speakers are approx. 12" x 10" x 7" and have attached 6' wire with RCA plugs (receiver speaker jacks are also RCA's).
A word about 8-tracks tapes:  the last picture shows two typical styles used in manufacturing tapes.  One used a flexible metal with 2 felt pads.  The other used a strip of foam with a cellophane cover.  Both served the function of holding the tape against the head as it traveled past.   Over the years, the foam used has often deteriorated to the point where it will no longer hold the tape firmly enough to allow the tape head to pick up the music off the tape as it travels past.  The type with the felt pads have tended to fair better over time.  We tested this unit with about 4-5 different tapes of each style that were in good operating condition.
If your tape will not play it is likely that the problem lies with the foam/felt pressure mechanism.  They can often be repaired - there are many good u-tube tutorials.
